Have you ever felt like it’s too late to finish something you started; like you missed out on your opportunity and now you’re too old. About six months before my thirtieth birthday I started to take an inventory of my life, my goals, my aspirations, what I had accomplished and what I still wanted to do in life. As I made my “inventory list” I became very overwhelmed. There was so much I wanted to do before I turned 30 and there was no way I could possibly get it done within the last few months of my twenties. If I hadn’t completed it yet, was it too late? Should I just forget it and move on to another goal?
“What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore - And then run? Does it stink like rotten meat? Or crust and sugar over—like a syrupy sweet? Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. Or does it explode? - Langston Hughes”
In Habakkuk 2:2 God instructs us to write our dreams down and describe them clearly and plainly. God then encourages us that even when it seems as though our visions and dreams are deferred, continue to wait because they will come to past! One of the toughest lessons for me, one that I seem to be tested on time and time again, is learning that my timing is not always God’s timing. When God has given us a dream and passion, we may have our own idea as to when and how that dream is to manifest. However, its often the case that God has a much better plan.
Are there dreams that you’ve allowed to sit on the shelf because you think it’s too late? Did you discard a passion or goal because it wasn’t developing at the pace you thought it should? Many of us have allowed dreams to die out of frustration and lack of patience. How much more fulfillment would we have if we continue to nurture those dreams until God manifests them in His timing.
If you have a dream or passion that aligns with God’s will, don’t let it die because you think time is dragging its feet. Instead, write down your plans and continue to nurture those plans until God allows it to be birthed and manifested. Don’t let your deferred dream become a regret that you carry with you. Continue to develop and nurture your goals; trusting that at the right time you will see it fulfilled.
