Many of you may have seen my posts with the hashtag “live on purpose.” One thing that I’ve realized over the past year is that walking in your purpose requires you to be intentional. I started taking an inventory of the activities I was involved in and things I had committed myself to in order to determine whether these things were advancing or interfering with my purpose.
Its easy for us to get caught up in just “doing” things because it sounds like a good idea. There’s nothing wrong with trying new things or doing things because its fun. The problem arises when you become tired or drained from doing so many things that you don’t have time to nurture and cultivate the things that you were destined and called to do.
I’ve always been the type of person to do what I say I’m going to do. This means putting all of my efforts, energy, and resources into a task or project to see it through. Because I know this about myself, I’ve learned to stop and consider how saying yes to a new venture will enhance my purpose or lead to stress by “doing” too much.
I’m not big on New Year resolutions because, honestly, I never keep them. Instead, I look at the different areas of my life and evaluate where I was last year, what goals I set, which goals were achieved, and how do I want to improve in the upcoming year. I usually do this evaluation in December so that when the New Year comes I can hit the ground running.
If you find yourself giving up on your NYE resolution within the first few weeks of January, try something different. Consider those activities and commitments you’ve made and ask yourself whether they are aligned with your purpose and destiny. Don’t just live. Live with intention. Don’t just be. Be about purpose.
Live on Purpose.
