Nobody likes waiting.  We live in a society where everything is built around making things happen immediately and quickly.  This isn’t entirely bad. There are some things that shouldn’t take a long time. Like my food in a restaurant.  The downside is, however, when we have the same expectations of immediacy concerning our purpose and destiny.  When it comes to the manifestation of purpose in your life, it takes time.  There are things that have to be developed in you that will not be born overnight.

The same is often true when we are waiting for the revelation of God’s promises.  Whenever I need to be reminded of what patience and faith looks like, I turn to the story of Abraham and Sarah.  God promised Abraham that he would be the father of nations years before he even had any children.  Sarah was old and well beyond her child bearing years when God promised her that  she would have a child.  In fact, Sarah laughed in disbelief.  I can imagine how Sarah must have felt.  She was probably so tired of hoping and waiting that the possibility of getting what she had longed for seemed too good to be true.

God promised Sarah that  “at the appointed time” she would bare a child.  And when the time had come, God kept His promise.  Sarah had a son and named him Isaac. (Gen. 21:1).

There is a lesson to be learned during the waiting and you’re missing out on this important moment if your focus is only on the due date.

Whether you're waiting on a husband, a child, or a promotion in ministry/career, waiting can be hard and frustrating.  I use to think that if God would just tell me the specific “date” I could expect things to happen I could be more patient.  But in reality, knowing wouldn’t matter at all you’re just going through life watching the clock.  Have you ever watched time? It's as if time moves that much slower.  If you would just live and allow things to happen when they're supposed to, you would save yourself the anxiety and frustration.  God, in His perfect wisdom, knows exactly when you are prepared and ready for what He has planned for your life.  There is a lesson to be learned during the waiting and you’re missing out on this important moment if your focus is only on the due date.

Trust that God will not lie because He cannot lie. Whatever He has promised to you shall and will come to pass.  But its up to you to allow Him to develop that which is necessary to enjoy the moment when the promise eventually comes. And it will come. You just have to wait for your time.
