God loves family. He created it. He saw that Adam needed companionship and so He gave him a wife, or help mate, Eve. Children are a reward from God and are the glory of their father. (Psalm 17:6 and 127:3). I believe that God has given us the family unit to reveal aspects of His heart that may be otherwise difficult to understand.
“God has given us the family unit to reveal aspects of His heart that may be otherwise difficult to understand.”
God is known as meaning things: our provider, our protector, our refuge, our healer, the list goes on. But most importantly, He is our Father. We were created in His image and it is His desire that we all live with Him in eternity. While sin separates us from God, once we accept salvation we are adopted into the sonship with Christ Jesus and are heirs to His throne. (Romans 8:15). As sons and daughters, God wants to show us that we can totally rely and depend on Him the same way children rely on their natural fathers. Children have a natural tendency to believe and trust anything their father says. A father can tell their child to jump off the top of a stairs into their arms and child instinctively takes the leap, trusting that their father will catch them. It is not until there is some incident of mistrust that children tend to lose this innate ability to trust their father.
God wants us to look to Him through the same lenses as a trusting child. No matter what has happened in your life that has tainted your idea of what a father should be, God reminds us that unlike our natural fathers, He is unchanging and will always be a good Father. (See Matthew 7:11).
God wants us to rely on Him for everything we need. He reminds us that we don't have to worry about what we are going to eat or where we will live. He has promised to take care of it all. How often do children go to their father with questions like, “uh dad, are you going to pay the bills this month?” or “Dad, do you have enough money to buy groceries or my school clothes?” Most children are not even concerned with the responsibilities their parents are faced with on a daily basis. All they know is, they have what they need. Children aren't concerned with the "how." God wants us to be rely on Him the same way.
God wants us to trust that, even more than our natural father, He has it all figured out. We don't have to worry about the necessities of life because our Father in heaven has it all under control. (Matthew 6:25-31). We can trust that He will work everything out in our favor and according to His perfect plan for our lives. Go to God with childlike faith and trust that, Daddy knows best!
